DHEA supports adrenal function. It often supports a better energy and generally improved memory and immune function as well as general wellbeing. It has also been shown to be very effective in supporting weight loss (1 pound/week of non-water weight when added to a healthy diet and exercise) when compared with placebo (1/4 pound/week). 

When someone is very adrenal deficient, they often don't tolerate even a tiny dose of DHEA. The reason is probably that the conversion of DHEA to sex hormones causes a sudden shift in the hormonal balance and the person ends up feeling worse that before starting the DHEA. The 7-Keto form of DHEA is found in our system further down (beyond the part that converts to sex hormones) the hormonal cascade and therefore causes very little elevation of sex hormones. This product was designed for this purpose (to avoid sex hormone production). I believe this is why I see (with 7-Keto DHEA) so few adverse reactions while still obtaining the support for better energy. It seems to be well tolerated in many cases when regular DHEA is not.

I often use this as starting point when initiating adrenal support. Later, I try to ease into using regular DHEA (tapering off 7-Keto DHEA while gradually starting regular DHEA) if there is no reason to avoid the DHEA such as history of cancer (prostate, breast, ovary, uterine etc.) or estrogen dominance which sometimes can be aggravated by increased estrogen or testosterone.
